Caring for Your New Bathroom Vanity

Posted by & filed under Marble Countertops, Tips.

If you just had a new bathroom vanity installed in your Brooklyn Park home, you might be wondering what you should do to keep it looking great for years to come. The type of care your new bathroom vanity should receive depends on the type of stone it’s made out of. So here are a few tips and tricks from the professionals at Minneapolis Granite on how to best care for your new vanity.

Granite

Granite is an excellent choice for a bathroom vanity thanks to its durability, elegance and resistance to heat, burns and bacteria.

In order to keep your new granite bathroom vanity looking its best, be sure to wipe it down with a soft cloth and warm water on a daily basis. Wipe up spills as soon as possible after they happen, especially if the liquid is a darker color or if it is acidic.

We seal all granite during the fabrication process and, chances are, you will not need to have your bathroom vanity resealed ever again. Whether or not you should have it resealed mostly depends on the type of granite it is made out of.

If you are not sure, you can contact us and ask or you can perform your own test. Simply put a drop of water on top of the vanity. If the water drop beads up and stays there until you wipe it away, your vanity does not need to be resealed. But if the water droplet is absorbed into the countertop, then the granite needs to be resealed.

However, if your granite bathroom vanity does need to be resealed in the future, it will not need it for at least a few years after it’s been installed.

Marble

While marble is a softer stone than granite, it still makes a lovely bathroom vanity. Remember that, generally, less is more when it comes to a marble bathroom vanity. You should use a soft cloth and warm water to clean it on a daily basis. Just be sure to dry the vanity off after you’ve wiped it down.

There are a variety of cleaners specially formulated for marble on the market today. Just be sure to read the instructions carefully before you use any cleaners, and test the cleaner on an inconspicuous part of your bathroom vanity before you apply it all over.
