How to Care for Your New Granite Counters

Posted by & filed under Granite Countertops.

So you just got some new granite counters installed in your St Paul home. You want to keep them looking as great as the day they were installed, right? So here are a few suggestions on how to help them stay looking as good as new.

Granite is an incredibly durable and long-lasting stone. Second only to diamonds in terms of hardness, it’s nearly impossible to scratch or damage. It would basically take a diamond or another piece of granite to scratch this stone.

There are a lot of opinions out there about sealing granite. When we install your new counters, we will seal the granite if it’s necessary. It basically boils down to what type of granite you purchase. Resealing, if needed, can be done by you if you want. It’s a simple process and it doesn’t need to be done that often.

Granite is also very heat resistant. You can set a hot pan or plate on your countertops and you won’t have to worry about burning them. Sure, you can use an hot pad if you want, but it’s not necessary.

It’s also quite easy to clean. Simply take some mild phosphate-free soap and put it on a damp cloth. Wipe down the counters and then wipe off the soap. Dry the granite with a cotton-flannel or chamois cloth. Granite is also bacteria-resistant. So you never have to worry that anything will be contaminated. Just wipe the surface down and you’re done!

Another great part about granite is that you can cut food on its surface without the need for a cutting board. But we don’t recommend doing this regardless – the granite could damage your knife blade!

And these are some of the many reasons we love granite so much. It’s durable, long-lasting and easy to care for. Plus, no two slabs of granite are exactly alike. So you are always guaranteed a unique look in your home. You will never have to worry that your granite matches someone else’s exactly. And these days, granite comes in a huge variety of colors and patterns. You can find granite in lighter shades like white or cream or darker shades like gray or black. You will always find a slab that will match your home’s décor.
